What is a Vision Board?
In an interview with Jeannine Marzella, vision board expert, certified Neural Linguistic Psychologist and Clinical Hypnotherapist, we discuss what they are, how they work, and the evidence that they fulfill their purpose.
A vision board is a physical manifestation of your goals. Created by using cut out images or text from magazines, it is much more than a cut and paste project.
This powerful tool is rapidly gaining popularity, as many celebrities swear by them. Oprah Winfrey has even given a masterclass on manifestation and vision boards.
The process of creating this board allows you to set intentions and attract the opportunities you need to bring these goals to fruition.
Why Use a Vision Board?
Marzella says if you really want to be focused on achieving your goals and removing any blocks, a vision board is for you.
While creating vision boards, you engage your emotions. These emotions are what “activate your will to take the next steps”. Marzella compares these emotional ties to remembering the feeling you had when you accomplished something big. You remember it because of the associated emotions that came with the achievement.
If you can tie this into a certain emotional feeling you have towards a goal, it will help manifest that goal.
How Does Making a Vision Board Feel?
Marzella says creating a board allows you to “open up your imagination and dream big”. Sometimes our subconscious produces blocks that make us feel as if we don’t deserve to reach our goals. The process of seeing and feeling out our goals abolishes those thoughts and leaves us feeling empowered.
Each thing we put on our board, we create an emotional and visual tie to, resulting in us working harder for it.
According to Marzella, it is more beneficial to create one in a group setting rather than alone. There are scientific studies regarding groups focused on the same goal. Quantum physics confirms a person’s belief about the outcome actually affects the outcome. Many teachers have taught about how praying or meditating together exponentially magnified the benefits.
While making a board alone can still be done, Marzella recommends participating in a group effort led by an instructor.
Dreams to Reality
Many celebrities including Katy Perry, Beyonce, Jim Carrey, Ellen Degeneres, and Oprah Winfrey believe in utilizing vision boards. Marzella also says many of her clients participating in her vision board workshops have come back to her years later reporting achievements beyond their dreams.
In an interview with MTV in 2009, Katy Perry describes making a vision board when she was only nine years old. Her teacher had all the students cut out pictures to put on a board.
On this board, she put a picture of Selena Gomez’s Grammy award. Aspiring to be like her, she worked hard and fifteen years later, she was nominated for her first Grammy Award
