Gut Health Game Changer: Healing with Hemp

Gut Health Game Changer: Healing with Hemp

Your gut plays a critical role not only in digesting food. While a healthy gut is essential for effective digestion and nutrient absorption, ensuring your body receives the necessary vitamins and minerals to function properly, it is also highly involved in determining weight gain, mental health and various other functions that keep you alive. Furthermore, the gut microbiome, which consists of trillions of
microorganisms, has a profound impact on immune system regulation, inflammation control, and even mood and cognitive functions.

What You Eat Determines How You Feel

The connection between gut health and mental well-being is particularly noteworthy. The gut-brain axis,
a communication network linking the gut and the brain, highlights how gut health can affect emotional and psychological states. Imbalances in gut bacteria have been associated with conditions such as anxiety, depression, and stress. Maintaining a balanced diet rich in fiber, probiotics, and prebiotics can support a healthy gut microbiome, promoting not only physical health but also mental and emotional resilience.

In addition to mental health and weight management, gut health influences various other parameters critical to overall well-being, including energy levels, skin health, and the risk of chronic diseases such as diabetes, heart disease, and certain cancers. Improving gut health involves incorporating fiber-rich foods like hemp, probiotics, and prebiotics into your diet to support a balanced gut microbiome. Regular physical activity, adequate hydration, and stress management are also crucial. Additionally, avoiding processed foods and excessive sugar can help maintain a healthy digestive system and overall well- being. Are you aware that hemp can promote gut health and enhance healthy living? This article will explore the benefits of hemp and how it can contribute to a healthier gut and overall wellness.

What Research Says About Hemp and Gut Health

Research shows that the safe use of traditional cannabis formulations for treating various illnesses, especially GI disorders, has been reported worldwide over a long period time in traditional Chinese Medicine. Information from preliminary studies suggests hemp’s potential benefit for digestive wellness.

A study published in the Journal Of Personalized Medicine found that cannabinoids like CBD and CBDa, may modulate gastrointestinal function, offering therapeutic potential for conditions such as inflammatory bowel disease (IBD) and irritable bowel syndrome (IBS). Additionally, a review published in Springer Nature highlighted the anti-inflammatory properties of cannabinoids, which could help alleviate symptoms of gastrointestinal disorders.

How Hemp Promotes a Healthy Gut

Hemp Seeds

Rich in fiber, protein, and healthy fats, hemp seeds are excellent for supporting digestive health. They are described as superfoods and contain all the necessary nutrients needed for human survival. The fiber in hemp seeds promotes regular bowel movements and helps maintain a healthy balance of gut bacteria. Add them to smoothies, yogurt, salads, or baked goods.

Hemp Protein Powder

Hemp protein powder is a great source of plant-based protein and fiber. It can help maintain a healthy gut microbiome by providing nutrients that support beneficial bacteria. Mix hemp protein powder into shakes, smoothies, or oatmeal.

Hemp Oil

Hemp oil, also known as hemp seed oil, contains essential fatty acids like omega-3 and omega-6, which have anti-inflammatory properties that can benefit gut health. Use hemp oil as a salad dressing, drizzle it over vegetables, or incorporate it into dips and spreads.

Hemp Milk

Hemp milk is a dairy-free alternative made from hemp seeds. It is easy to digest and can be a good option for those with lactose intolerance or dairy sensitivities. Use hemp milk in your morning cereal, coffee, or smoothies.

CBD Oil

Cannabidiol (CBD) derived from hemp may also support gut health. CBD has anti- inflammatory properties that can help reduce gut inflammation and support a healthy digestive system. Add a few drops of CBD oil to your food or beverages, or take it directly as a supplement. It will interest you to note that although CBD oil is great at promoting healthy gut, it is not as powerful as CBDa. CBDa was discovered to 1000 times more active than CBD and provides more benefits. It engages the endocannabinoid system via multiple targets. Nesas Hemp describes the difference between the two compounds as living vs. dead.

Hemp-Based Probiotics

Some products combine hemp with probiotics, which are beneficial bacteria that support gut health. These supplements can help balance your gut microbiome and improve digestion.

Dietary Fiber

The high fiber content in hemp seeds and hemp-based foods helps promote healthy digestion by adding bulk to stools and fostering the growth of beneficial gut bacteria. Ensure you drink plenty of water when consuming high-fiber foods to aid digestion.

Anti-Inflammatory Benefits

Hemp products contain compounds with anti-inflammatory properties, which can help soothe and heal the gut lining. This is particularly beneficial for individuals with inflammatory bowel conditions.

Are CBD Products Safe for Gut Health?

Though genuine CBD is generally well-tolerated by the body, its safety for norovirus and other gut-related issues remains a topic of debate. This uncertainty is largely fueled by the prevalence of low- quality CBD products in the market, many of which are heavily contaminated with toxins. As a result, consumers are left questioning the safety and efficacy of CBD for several conditions. Low quality CBD products contain little to no active compounds and are often wrongly labelled. Shocking statistics from Forbes shows that nearly 60% of CBD products in the United States are inaccurately labeled and contaminated with toxins.

These substandard products pose serious risks to consumers, including severe side effects and, in extreme cases, fatalities. However, amidst this crisis, there are reputable CBD brands who are redefining quality and safety standards. These brands prioritize premium hemp products that support the endocannabinoid system without harmful toxins, promoting consumer trust and advancing the potential of hemp for holistic health. By prioritizing transparency and integrity and conducting rigorous third-party laboratory testing from FDA-approved labs.

The Surprising Health Benefits of Cold Showers

The Surprising Health Benefits of Cold Showers

Cold showers have gained popularity as a health and wellness practice, offering a host of benefits that go beyond the refreshing jolt they provide in the morning. While the idea of subjecting yourself to cold water might seem daunting, the numerous advantages of cold showers make them worth considering. In this article, we’ll delve into the science-backed benefits of cold showers and explore why you might want to incorporate them into your daily routine.

    Improved Circulation and Blood Flow

One of the primary benefits of cold showers is their ability to enhance blood circulation. When exposed to cold water, your blood vessels constrict, which forces the blood to move at a higher pressure. This process stimulates your cardiovascular system, ensuring that blood reaches all parts of your body effectively. Improved circulation can have a positive impact on your overall heart health and reduce the risk of cardiovascular issues.

    Boosted Immune System

Cold showers can provide a natural boost to your immune system. The shock of cold water stimulates the production of white blood cells, which are essential for fighting off infections and diseases. Regular exposure to cold water can help your immune system become more robust and better equipped to defend your body against illnesses. A study done showed people who switched to cold showers showed up called out sick from work 29% less than people who did not.

    Enhanced Mood and Mental Well-being

Cold showers are known to release endorphins, often referred to as “feel-good” hormones. These neurotransmitters promote feelings of happiness and can help alleviate symptoms of stress and anxiety. Taking a cold shower in the morning can set a positive tone for the day, leaving you feeling invigorated and mentally refreshed.

Check out one of our favorite podcasts, Everyday Endorphins.

    Increased Energy and Alertness

If you’re looking for a natural way to boost your energy levels, consider turning to cold showers. The shock of cold water stimulates your body’s adrenaline production, which leads to increased alertness and a surge in energy. This can be particularly helpful on days when you’re feeling sluggish or need a quick pick-me-up.

    Faster Muscle Recovery

Cold showers are a popular technique among athletes for their potential to aid in muscle recovery. The cold water helps reduce inflammation and soreness in muscles after an intense workout. Incorporating cold showers into your post-exercise routine can promote faster recovery, allowing you to get back to your workouts sooner.

    Improved Skin and Hair Health

benefits of cold showers for skin health

Cold water is less harsh on your skin and hair compared to hot water. Hot water can strip your skin of natural oils and moisture, leading to dryness and irritation. Cold showers, on the other hand, help tighten pores and prevent clogging, potentially reducing the occurrence of acne. Additionally, cold water can make your hair shinier and less prone to frizz by flattening the hair cuticles.

The next time you step into the shower, consider embracing the invigorating power of cold water for a revitalizing experience like no other.

Benefits of Acupuncture for Your Mind and Body

Benefits of Acupuncture for Your Mind and Body

Acupuncture is an ancient practice that has been used for thousands of years to treat a variety of ailments. It involves the insertion of thin needles into specific points on the body to stimulate the flow of energy, or qi, through the body. While some people may be hesitant to try acupuncture due to the use of needles, it is a safe and effective treatment with numerous benefits.

    Benefits of Acupuncture

One of the main benefits of acupuncture is pain relief. Acupuncture has been shown to be effective in treating chronic pain, including back pain, neck pain, and osteoarthritis. It works by stimulating the release of natural pain-relieving chemicals in the body, such as endorphins and serotonin. This can help to reduce the need for pain medication, which can have negative side effects.

Acupuncture can also help to reduce stress and anxiety. The practice has been shown to decrease cortisol levels in the body, which is a hormone associated with stress. This can help to improve mood and reduce feelings of anxiety and depression. Additionally, acupuncture has been shown to improve sleep quality, which is important for overall health and wellbeing.

Acupuncture can also improve immune function. By stimulating specific points on the body, acupuncture can help to increase the production of white blood cells, which are responsible for fighting off infections and diseases. This can help to boost the immune system and reduce the risk of illness.

Another benefit of acupuncture is improved digestion. Acupuncture can help to regulate the digestive system, reducing symptoms such as bloating, constipation, and diarrhea. It can also help to improve appetite and nutrient absorption, which can be particularly beneficial for people with digestive disorders.

    Acupuncture and Women’s Health

Acupuncture has also been shown to be effective in treating women’s health issues. It can help to regulate menstrual cycles, reduce the symptoms of premenstrual syndrome (PMS), and alleviate menopausal symptoms such as hot flashes and night sweats. Acupuncture can also be used to improve fertility, either on its own or in conjunction with other fertility treatments.

Overall, acupuncture is a safe and effective treatment with numerous benefits. It can help to reduce pain, improve mood, boost the immune system, regulate digestion, and treat women’s health issues. If you are considering acupuncture, it is important to find a licensed and experienced practitioner who can provide a safe and effective treatment. While some people may experience mild side effects such as bruising or soreness at the needle insertion sites, these typically subside quickly and are not serious. With regular acupuncture treatments, many people find that they are able to achieve a greater sense of balance and wellbeing in their lives.

Troop is Paving the Way for Mushroom Wellness in 2023

Troop is functional mushroom gummies. The brand’s goal is to demystify mushrooms and make them approachable, and what better way than in a delicious gummy? Our Editor In Chief, Kennedy, interviewed the two brains behind the brand to see how Troop was created and what it has to offer for the community of wellness mushroom lovers.

Conversations with Co-Founders Stephanie Moyal and Jake Mellman

KS: What is Troop? Tells us about a little bit about your brand and the mission/purpose.

SM: Jake and I are cousins and we founded troop during the pandemic. Like most during that time, we were investing in our health and wellness and looking into natural remedies and ways to keep our bodies healthy. When we came across mushrooms, we felt as though we had discovered this secret that not enough people were talking about. We became obsessed and started reading books, watching documentaries and then decided to grow our own mushrooms. We loved the benefits that mushrooms were bringing to our lives and wanted to share them with our community in a way that made sense to us. When we looked at mushroom products on the market, everything struck as ceremonial or mystical, or at the other end of the spectrum, geared towards the avid adventurer. We then set out to demystify mushrooms and make a product that would appeal to the everyday user, and what better way than in a delicious gummy? We decided on the name troop because it means a group of mushrooms that grows together. As such, community is built into the ethos of our brand and our goal is to bring people together and create a troop of people who are passionate about health and wellness.

KS: What makes Troop unique amongst other brands?

SM: The quality of the product is the most important thing for us. As such, we only use mushrooms organically and sustainably cultivated in the US and dual extract them for maximum benefit. Our products are also vegan, gluten-free, soy free and made with natural colors and flavors. We see other companies taking shortcuts with their mushrooms including where they’re grown and not using the fruiting body. At the end of the day, creating the best product we can will always be our goal.

    mushroom wellness

KS: What should people consider incorporating mushrooms into their lifestyle? What are the healing powers?

SM: Mushrooms have a myriad of health benefits and we believe should be incorporated into everyone’s lives. Ranging from protecting your body from various illnesses and ailments, boosting cognitive function, maintaining a healthy gut, containing antiviral and anti-inflammatory properties and promoting a good night’s rest to name a few, there’s not much mushrooms don’t do. To learn more, check out our page with more mushroom benefits along with research and studies. https://trytroop.com/meet-your-shrooms/

KS: What are your favorite kinds of mushrooms?

SM: We love all of the mushrooms that we work with; however, if I had to choose, I would say lion’s mane. Alzheimer’s runs in our family and being able to protect your brain with something natural against the potential of that disease is extremely important to me. Jake’s favorite is reishi- he describes it as getting a warm hug on the inside of his body and it helps him get a good night’s rest.

KS: Why are mushrooms important to you?

SM: We believe in natural and preventive measures to protect your health. Nature, especially mushrooms, hold many of the answers that we’re looking for in terms of overall health and wellness. They’ve had extremely positive effects on our lives, and it’s our goal to spread the word and help other people reap the same benefits.

KS: Why do you think mushroom wellness has grown so  much in the past few years?

SM: While mushrooms have been used in Eastern medicine for thousands of years, they’re finally starting to get the recognition they deserve in the west. As more studies are being conducted and their results publicized, the word is getting out how beneficial they are for our health. We truly believe that this is only the tip of the iceberg and we’ll continue to see positive information spreading across the news and more mushroom-based products come to the market.
